Start Your Day
Here To Play
Luke and Owen were born prematurely at 30 weeks.
My wife and I spent many hours in the NICU first at Beth
Israel Hospital and then at Emerson Hospital before
Luke and Owen came home.  Charlie got to visit them
right after they were born and then a few weeks later
when they were no longer hooked up to machines.

I wrote this song one afternoon while holding the two
boys on my chest.  Singing was very soothing for the
boys and quite cathartic for me as well.
Open your eyes Owen,
Let the sunlight trickle in
Another night has passed us by
And the day will soon begin
Rise and shine sweet love of mine
Open up your eyes.

Lift your head up a little Luke
Here what’s happening all around
Like the bluebirds singing
And the church bells ringing
There filling the morning with sound
Rise and shine sweet love of mine
It’s time to lift your head

So get up on your feet and get going
It’s time to start your day
There’s a lot to do both me and you
Let’s all get up and play

Chart a new course now Charlie
You’re an older brother now
There’s a lot to learn, if you want a turn
You can show your brothers both how
Rise and shine sweet love of mine
If you want to take your turn

So get up on your feet and get going
It’s time to start your day
There’s a lot to do both me and you
Let’s all get up and play
