Animal Parade

One day while I was walking and happened by a field
A parade came out from nowhere, my family had to yield
In front there was a farmer his best friend by his side
A long haired border collie with blue eyes all full of pride.
It barked just once to order the rest to fall in line
5 cows, 4 sheep, 3 donkeys, 2 horses and a swine
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, Neigh, Neigh, Oink and Moo
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, and another Hee Haw too

The cows had bells around their necks, each played a different note
Their moos sang out the melody from deep within their throats
The sheep were ballroom dancing, they tangoed by in pairs
Their coats were finely tailored despite the curly hairs
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, Neigh, Neigh, Oink and Moo
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, and another Hee Haw too

The donkeys were quite limber they kicked their legs up high
And flipped like trapeze artists as they hee-hawed through the sky
The horses were quite silly. They acted more like clowns.
They put on bright red slippers and they pranced around the town.
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, Neigh, Neigh, Oink and Moo
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, and another Hee Haw too
And then at last the pig walked by, with an oink he greeted us.
“We hope you liked our small parade and it wasn’t too much fuss.”
We stood their quite astonished our mouths dropped open wide
There were no words we could respond no matter how we tried.
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, Neigh, Neigh, Oink and Moo
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, and another Hee Haw too

So off they went that man and dog, the others in a line
5 cows, 4 sheep, 3 donkeys, 2 horses and the swine.
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, Neigh, Neigh, Oink and Moo
Moo, Moo, Baa, Baa, Hee Haw, and another Hee Haw too.

Animal Parade - Behind the Scenes

For years, I hosted a weekly playgroup at The Performing Arts Center at 51 Walden in Concord, MA

I brought toys for the kids to play with while I sang my original songs. One of my buckets was filled with farm animals that included cows, sheep, donkeys, horses, pigs, and many others. It even included a border collie. It was really fun to watch my youngest audience members crawl across the floor and pick up the particular animal that I was singing about. I loved getting to know the families in my community. I also loved having a regular venue where I could practice new material.
