Butterfly on my nose

Now a butterfly has the brightest colorful wings I’ve ever seen

Patterns of red and yellow and blue, purple and orange and green

From its chrysalis it hatches out to the world where it is free

And this is the story of yesterday when a butterfly landed on me

There was a little butterfly flying through the air

Back and forth across the sky darting here to there

I watched it for a while and then what do you suppose

To my surprise it came real close and landed on my nose

Now what do you do when a butterfly has landed on your face

Do you smile at it with dignity and welcome it with grace

I thought of that but then again what’s a man to do

When a butterfly is tickling your nose you have to say ah-choo

Now a butterfly has the brightest colorful wings I’ve ever seen

Patterns of red and yellow and blue, purple and orange and green

From its chrysalis it hatches out to the world where it is free

And that was the story of yesterday when a butterfly landed on me

And that was the story of yesterday when a butterfly landed on me

Butterfly on my nose - Behind the Scenes

The verses of this song were originally about a dragonfly. I wrote it on a long car trip while sitting in the back seat trying to entertain my oldest son when he was a toddler. When I started singing the song more regularly I decided it needed a chorus. That is when it morphed into a song about a butterfly with all of its beautiful colors.
